Inconvenient cooling

The economy's still in the dumps, but that hasn't stopped Democrats from trying to make it much, much worse. The liberals in the House have already passed enormous and byzantine (read: incomprehensible) regulations and taxes on energy in the so-called cap and trade bill. Estimates say the legislation would cost the average family about $2,000 per year in higher power bills and other added costs of goods. It is targeted at coal-fired plants like our own Plant Scherer here in Monroe County.
Supporters claim the legislation would help -- get this -- make the weather cooler. Well, nobody said humility governed Washington. Thankfully, the bill has bogged down somewhat in the senate, partially because -- shazaam! -- data is trickling out that the earth's temperatures have actually been going down over the past decade. That has the alarmists very, very worried. George Will has the details here. With the current crowd in Washington, every bill that dies is a victory for the American people.
