Georgia Theater

Most of those who've attended the University of Georgia have probably spent at least a few evenings while in Athens at the Georgia Theater. It's an old downtown cinema house converted into a live concert hall and bar, complete with a balcony. One thing I remember about the place was the floors. They were disgusting -- barf, beer, cigarette butts and old gum. Sadly, fire gutted the place this morning. The story brought back a flood of memories, or at least the ones I can remember.
I saw the Dave Matthews Band there when I was matriculating (I love that word), and supposedly MTV taped the concert to air on cable. I confess I cannot name one Dave Matthews song, but it was "the cool thing to do," so there I was. Ah, the misspent days of youth. Thank God I survived my prodigal years. Read about the fire here.
