Now pitching, our lefty president...

Does it really matter whether a president has athletic ability? I don't think so. What's really important is whether he holds his country in high regard, whether he believes in our constitution and free enterprise system, and whether he's willing to forcefully confront our enemies. Unfortunately, it appears our current president has none of the above. What he does have is a strong-arm in staging events and dictating to the media. Case point No. 1 is last night's All-Star game when President Obama threw out the first pitch. Amazingly, Fox Sports used a camera angle that concealed his throw, which reminded me a lot of my seven-year-old daughter's throws at the Monroe County Recreation Department. Fortunately, there is one place you can see the throw, this highlight blip here from MLB.com. It's 24 seconds in. Like I said, it really shouldn't matter that the president throws a wimpy pitch. It's just too bad it so well fits the way he deals with our adversaries abroad.

I think that it's only natural for the public to over analyze their leader's actions. Do you remember when George Bush senior couldn't scan groceries on national television? It sent a message out to people that their president was out of touch with the times. Conversely, when Clinton played "Heartbreak Hotel" on a popular TV show, he managed to bridge the gap between the old guard and the elusive youth culture. So when Obama throws a baseball or does any other sort of arbitrary action, the public is looking for signs of weakness.
